| | Make Meeker Your Snowmobile Destination Meeker offers one of the West's best kept secrets: fabulous snowmobiling! In fact, some of the best snow machine fun is available right here in the White River area.
From the first snowfall in December, until the weather warms up and the snow settles, snowmobilers here ride their sleds through some of the best "wild" pure powder snow in North America. Our pure powder snow is challenging, exciting and invigorating for die-hard snowmobilers, and is inviting for newer riders who want to learn what riding wild snow is all about. Powder riding requires more skill, but the extra demands add to the thrill and enjoyment of your ride.
If wild snow is a bit too demanding, our springtime snowmobiling is hard to beat. In ideal spring conditions, you can ride more than 100 miles a day - if you're up to it! On our wide open trails in spring, you can see more of our backcountry in an afternoon than you could see in several days on horseback. The White River Snowmobile Club marks and maintains 178 miles of snowmobile trails in eastern Rio Blanco County. The club grooms 78 miles and leaves the other 100 miles natural trails that can challenge even the best riders. The trail terrain varies from steep canyons and rugged mountains to gentle slopes and rolling hills with an abundance of open parks and meadows.
You can have fun casually riding your machine down a groomed trail, finessing it through the trees, "high marking" on hills or cruising through an open park. The trails lead snowmobilers to Trappers Lake, Sleepy Cat Peak, Blair Mountain, Bar HL, Coulter Lake, the Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway, and more. For a great ride, start at the Lost Creek Trailhead and ride the Scenic Byway to Ripple Creek Pass. If you haven't seen these areas in the winter, you're missing scenery that is every bit as spectacular as Yellowstone - without the crowds! Since several of the White River Snowmobile Club trails also tie in with the Rifle and Glenwood Springs trail systems, you can ride for days if you want to.
Whether your ride will be for an afternoon or longer, you can start your day of fun at any one of seven snowmobile trailheads, all of them 30 miles or less from downtown Meeker. The trailheads have graveled parking lots for you to unload your snowmobile and park your vehicle.
